If you follow me on Snapchat @iamchouquette you will know I (like always) had some drama buying this bag. For those of you that do not follow my Snapchat you bloody should be and I am not going to share the story. Just kidding I will share the story…..
I have had a stressful few months moving, we have all been there it’s horrendous isn’t it? I decided to treat myself obviously in the form of CHANEL. I have wanted a black WOC for years, I remember when they were £880, so I regret not buying one back then. I always put this at the back of my wish list because it’s the least expensive CHANEL bag and they are pretty much always available to buy. I am more drawn to the limited pieces. The WOC are so practical for shopping, going out in the evening and traveling. They are perfect to carry your passports and money in and they are so small to pack in your suitcase. I use them more than any of my other bags.
The caviar used to be £880 and the lamb skin was £990. The price gradually increased year by year but one day they decided to make the lamb and the caviar the same price. The lamb skin is the original leather that was used, the calf leather was introduced much later. True CHANEL collectors, specially the French people see the caviar as the cheaper style. I know of some CHANEL collectors that despise the calf skins and would never wear one, I disagree with these people. I guess this is why is was always less expensive. CHANEL clearly realised that majority of their customers were buying the calf skin because it is more durable (I try so stay away from lamb skin myself) and at the time it was cheaper therefore they balanced out the pricing. Bad times.
Some guide prices for you for 2016:
- CC calf skin like mine is £1120 $1625 1485 EUR
- Quilted calf and lamb skin is £1220 $1770 1619 EUR
- Seasonal pieces like my rose gold style vary in price and are usually more expensive. My rose gold one was £1385 $2010 1838 EUR
I fought the powers of marketing and ignored the fact that I am bullied by brands to buy what is exclusive. This was a planned purchase and I have been saving for it for the passed few months. Please do not ever see me as a girl with an endless budget and dropping £1120 on a bag/wallet is nothing to me. I work hard for my bags and when I reveal my background; which I have decided to share with you on YouTube soon (hopefully) you will understand me more and my bags are a struggle for me to buy. Each purchase is planned and painful because it is so much money. I am where I am because of me no one else, but I will save this for the video.
I will get back to the purchase story because that’s what you really want to know isn’t it?
A few years ago on a styling job a guy stole some CHANEL items of mine. I had items on loan from PRs and some items were mine. Luckily the items that got stole were mine because it would have damaged my reputation if the loaned items went missing. The story got nasty, police got involved and it was a horrible time. I haven’t seen the “guy” in almost five years. As I walked into CHANEL at Harrods I saw him, he is well over 6.5′ and intimidating. I was surprised he recognised me so easily, maybe he reads my blog; I hope not!!
I carried on walking to the till and asked to see the WOCs. He then walks back in, asks a random questions but he was looking at me the whole time. I was on my phone too scared to look left. He then walks off shouting and swearing at me. I was still frozen. The CHANEL sales assistant asked me to sit down and I was given water, she realised immediately he was suspicious. I didn’t plan on taking it further but the CHANEL security witnessed it and I was at this point red and sweaty. Paris walked in (yeah way too late thanks Paris) and the so did my sister. They both think I am a drama queen and didn’t care at all. The CHANEL security and the Harrods security took it so seriously and were so nice to me. I was in a fluster and they made me feel better and not worried if I were to ever see him again. I felt so stressed so I left.
As I was walking down the escalator I thought to my self; no I am here to buy a bag and need to pull myself together. Nothing comes in between CHANEL and I. So off I went to buy the bag.
