The main reason I was looking forward to the Sophia Webster presentation was not only because I love the brand and it is British but because I completely did not know what to expect which is what I love about Sophia! I discovered the shoes via my love for flamingos may I mention I never found a pair of SW flamingo shoes in my size 🙁 but this led me to fall in love with the brand. Music to our ears is the price point as these are affordable designer shoes; pricey enough to feel like a special pair of shoes but not too out of reach so we can not afford them.
Of course flamingos would be predictable because of last season and the theme of the Webster pop up shop recently so I sadly prepared myself for a flamingoless event. Sophia’s very first presentation last year for SS13 was presented in a doll house theme which I loved so I had high hopes for the SS14.
As soon as I walked in I kept saying wow this and wow that which is not a me thing to say, the space had been transformed into a magical secret garden which made me feel I was no longer in London. I got so much wedding inspiration so thanks for that Sophia Webster team! Guests had to walk through flower power tunnels where shoes from the collection would be hiding and hanging from baskets of flowers, then we were greeted with bunk beds, swings and the cutest bug like models! It was a lot to take in which resulted into the wow factor for me as there was so much to see and enjoy. Somehow the bunk beds and swings thrown together with the bug girls completely just worked and every aspect complimented each other. the model were the cutest girls I came across the entire fashion month not only were they young and just simply so cute they were all so sweet, as you can see one of the girls grabbed Tallulah and she sat happily on the girls lap whilst I mingled. The hair was amazing don’t you think? I always look at the girls from head to toe, make up, hair nails, underwear everything and in this case the girls were perfection! So much attention to detail went into the set, the girls and the music. Sometimes I feel in some shows the models have clearly rushed from another show and been quickly transformed to reflect the next look. I did not get this impression here.
I am aware of Sophia’s career history and a fan of her work and achievements such as New Emerging Designer 2010 and New Gen Award three times awarded by the Fashion Council and not forgetting working for Nicholas Kirkwood….. so to meet her was a great excitement for me! I was taken by surprise when I met Sophia because I just thought it was another person stroking the dog so I was taken back when I saw it was THE Sophia! Sophia is so tiny and petite, I could help but immediately congratulate her on a such a great event and sharing with her that is was my favourite presentation so far and now I can say it was my favourite over all! She replied very grateful and sincere so I am so pleased I can continue loving Sophia and her unique story telling shoes!
The collection was as commercial and unique as the previous collection so I am pleased to say the brand is staying true to its theatrical roots. There is no other brand out there that is similar and new comers will have a challenge on their hands to compete. A favourite of mine were speech bubble clutches “bite me” and “you buggin” and the pastel blue cloud print, you will for sure be seeing me in pastel blue shoes next summer! I was happy to see the same signature midi heels which is an element of shoes I take note of these days, no more skyscrapers for me and perspex materials. The garden theme was linked to the lady bird backpacks which were also a favourite of mine.
I can not wait for the next presentation going by how much this Spring Summer event blew me away. My style tip for shoes next summer would be to wear cute white socks with your sandals.
